Tests and Diagnosis

Simple tests may be carried out to focus on the correct diagnosis. These will include simple movements and reflex tests.

A provisional diagnosis and treatment plan will be discussed and agreed before any treatment takes place. Should more detailed examinations, such as X-rays, be necessary your practitioner will explain why and then refer you to the appropriate professional.

Your practitioner will be happy to discuss any risks associated with physical therapy and advise you as to the best and safest approach for your condition.

You may experience some discomfort for up to 48 hours after treatment which can be alleviated by simple aftercare. These include hot and cold compresses and exercise regimes. Exercise, postural and lifestyle advice will be given at the end of the treatment.

Mothers’ Clinic

Louise is also a midwife, having qualified in the 1980s. As a dual practitioner she is skilled in assessing a woman’s symptoms and offering an holistic approach to the needs of antenatal and postnatal women.

Osteopathy offers pre-natal women the opportunity to prepare physically for labour by becoming more aware of their own bodies and their capacity to cope. Post-natal women are often affected by the physical and emotional changes of childbirth and childcare causing symptoms that can benefit from osteopathic treatments.

During pregnancy and after the birth of a child, a woman’s body can feel very different to her. She may experience significant discomfort in her joints and muscles which could be alleviated by osteopathy.
